Thank you so much! Let me reply here to your idea that Trump is strong on economics.

There are a lot of macro indicators he can point to, absolutely, and empirically they are true. But I do not think they are advantage to him in the only contest that matters: the culture of economics, which is moving away from the GOP.

For example, Trump’s tax cuts are unpopular (https://news.gallup.com/poll/243611/disapprove-approve-2017-tax-cuts.aspx). For another example, nominally ‘socialist’ program — minus the label of socialism — are also popular (https://www.cnbc.com/2019/03/03/americans-mixed-message-for-2020-presidential-candidates-keep-your-socialist-hands-off-our-government-programs.html).

That’s why I think the culture of economics is weak ground for the GOP to stand on. They can stand on the culture of identity much better.
